Eric and I finally made it to Gibraltar during our travels in August 2008. While Gibraltar is part of the European Union, and you can see the EU flag flying beside the Union Jack and Gibraltar flag, Gibraltar remains outside of the EU Customs Union. The UK is also not a full member of Schengen. Due to this, full border controls remain between both countries. You can see they still have lines for articles to declare or nothing to declare. The Upper Rock reached by either cable car, minibus (tours) or private car there are breathtaking views down to the town, beaches, the Stait of Gibraltar, Bahia de Algeciras and if the weather is clear you can Morocco in detail. Points of interest, along with the apes, there are dolphins and whales in the bay. Great Siege Tunnels, The Morrish Castle, Military Heritage Centre, St Michael's Cave. Walk through the Main Street, great for shopping if you are missing a little bit of England, with the normal high street stores mixed in with tax free shops. It is bordered by Spain to the north and the people of Gibraltar are ferociously loyal British citizens despite being bilingual in English and Spanish. Understand[edit] Gibraltar is a unique place for the curious traveler. Take time to explore the caves and tunnels especially those not meant for tourists! The inside of the rock is an absolute labyrinth with secret internal roads and tunnels four times longer than those on the surface. Military presence and security in this otherwise deserted area is strong but almost invisible. History[edit] In Greek mythology Gibraltar was Calpe, one of the Pillars of Hercules, which marked the edge of the Mediterranean and the known world. In 711 Tariq ibn Ziyad, the Muslim governor of Tangier, landed at Gibraltar to launch the Islamic invasion of the Iberian Peninsula. The Rock took his name - Jabal Tariq (Mountain of Tariq) eventually became Gibraltar. Strategically important, Gibraltar was ceded in perpetuity to Great Britain by Spain in the 1713 Treaty of Utrecht; the British garrison was formally declared a colony in 1830. Spain continues to hassle and harass Gibraltar in a so far fruitless effort to grab this territory that has been loyal to the British crown for more than 300 years. In referendums held in 1967 and 2002, Gibraltarians voted overwhelmingly to stay a territory of the United Kingdom. On 10 June 2004, citizens of Gibraltar voted for the first time in the UK MEP (Member of the European Parliament) elections, as part of the South West constituency. The topmost part of the Rock is still a British military installation, and off-limits to the public. Get in[edit] Entry requirements[edit] Gibraltar is a member of the European Union, however it is not part of the Schengen Area or EU Customs Union. This means that there are immigration and customs controls when entering and leaving Gibraltar. Citizens of the European Union are required to have a national identity card or passport, while all others are required to have a passport to enter. The entry requirements for Gibraltar are not the same as the United Kingdom. Unless exempt from visa requirements, to enter Gibraltar you must have either a Gibraltar visa (to be applied for separately from a normal British visa at a British embassy/consulate), a UK visa valid for at least 6 months, or a UK permit of residence valid for at least 5 years. If arriving by air, Gibraltar airport staff will refuse entry to anyone who does not comply with these requirements. Although entry into Gibraltar will technically invalidate a single-entry Schengen visa, in practice passports are checked but not stamped on entry by land, and those with single-entry visas usually get re-admitted to Spain without any problems. After crossing customs, you may be asked to cross the airport runway, being absolutely exposed By car[edit] travel, travel destination, travel advice, skyline, famous buildings, street life nice city, tourist , toursm, beautiful, pictures, beautiful photographs, landmarks, street life, life, street, streets, aerial, famous, parks, statues, people, nice people, friendly , friendly people, amazing, train station, city hall, hotel, vacation, trees, green, technology, pituresque, wonderful, impression, happy people, photo, photo video,Youtube Red, ature, natural park,

Eric and I finally made it to Gibraltar during our travels in August 2008. Gibraltar remains a British Overseas Territory and has been a possession of the UK since Spain relinquished control in 1713 with the Treaty of Utrecht. Even with these factors and Spain and the UK's past history with respect to Gibraltar, the border crossing is nowadays a formality, where guards perform nothing more than a cursory inspection of passports. The video starts looking at Gibraltar from Avenida de Principe de Asturias in La Línea, Spain. The next scene has us looking for the border crossing. It's a bit tricky because you have to turn right at a roundabout and loop back around a long side road near where the cruise ships dock. This road is meant for the long line at the border that occurs whenever a plane is taking off or landing since Winston Churchill Ave crosses through the runway. This will remain the case until the runway bypass road is completed on the east side of the runway. If you miss the turnout for customs, you stay on Avenida de Principe de Asturias and drive straight past the border and have to loop around. (We made this mistake once!) Notice that graffiti covers most of the signs giving directions to Gibraltar. Spanish tend not to be too happy about the UK keeping control. After admiring the Gibraltar license plates and waiting aimlessly behind a stalled car for a few minutes, we arrive at the border. I mistakenly start talking in English to the first official I see, who actually is from the Policía Nacional. When entering or leaving Gibraltar you have to present your passports twice, once to the Policía Nacional (Spanish authorities) and again to the British. The guard informs us in Spanish to keep our passports out because we'll be asked to present them again. After a brief and friendly chat with the British immigration official, we are in Gibraltar and are crossing the runway to get into town. Note: You're getting a picture of the dashboard at the actual border since the guards don't take too kindly to videophotography. :)

It is sad that this world in not evolved enough to be a good place for everyone. Many people dream about living in the United States of America. And in order to make their dream come true they are ready to illegally cross the border. They find various ways; even stuff their bodies to weird places. Look how inventive these people are! Illegal entry is the act of foreign nationals arriving in or crossing the borders into a country in violation of its immigration law. Migrants from nations that do not have automatic visa agreements, or who would not otherwise qualify for a visa, often cross the borders illegally in some areas like the United States–Mexico border, the Mona Channel between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, the Strait of Gibraltar, Fuerteventura, and the Strait of Otranto. These methods are often dangerous: migrants have been known to suffocate in shipping containers,[1] boxcars[2] and trucks,[3] sink in shipwrecks caused by unseaworthy vessels[4] or die of dehydration[5] or exposure during long walks without water.[6] Human smuggling is the practice of intermediaries aiding undocumented migrants in crossing international borders for financial gain, often in large groups. Human smuggling differs from, but is sometimes associated with, human trafficking. A human smuggler will facilitate illegal entry into a country for a fee, but on arrival at their destination, the smuggled person is usually free. Trafficking involves a process of using physical force, fraud, or deception to obtain and transport people, usually for the purpose of forced labor or prostitution at the destination.
